Classical Music Criticism and Judgment Essay Classical music is one kind of the art music from various style of music. On Oxford Dictionary give the meaning of classical music as serious music following long-established principles rather than a folk, jazz, or popular tradition, and even give more specifically meaning by the period of music(since the music has 6 periods; middle age, renaissance, baroque, classic, romantic and contemporary) that classical music is the music written in the European tradition during a period lasting approximately from 1750 to 1830, when forms such as the symphony, concerto, and sonata were standardized. How do we judge the classical music, and what is the musical value of classical music? I think this is the hard thing to critics about the good or bad of the things that we call it as one kind of art. We could analyze music by their elements such as the musical form, the harmony, the rhythm, orchestration, register of that piece etc. But also the problems is everyone has different taste and also some have the same taste too such as one composer love the way dominant chord run to sub median chord and then resolve to dominant again then end with tonic chord but another one like the way to begin the phrase with sub median then dominant for two bars to extend the dominant longer (could call it as dominant prolongation) until tonic in the last bar. The question is what is the best chord progression of those two ideas? , and how do we judge what is the best chord progression? And interesting question is how do we judge that one piece copy from any other pieces? Another example is if we judge one of the phrases in symphony no. 9 by Beethoven â€Å"Ode to Joy† as the best phrase that compound with many good melodies, best chord progression and orchestration and great idea to add choir to that movement but there is also a question that who judge that this phrase is the best. How do they judge? , and what is the material that they use to judge this kind of classical music to make it the best of Beethoven’s pieces? The Best music in all kind of area not only includes by best music by creativity composers but also has to have best performers that can perform the best performances too. In classical music the performers have to do analyze and interpretation the music that they will perform, have to know the period of that music so they could play as the style of each period, have to practice in the right way to gain more techniques to their muscles to control their musical instrument, have to perform as natural as possible like they are speaking, eating or walking. The best performers have to bring all emotions and energy from the music that is just a music note on the paper to touch their audiences’ heart. The problems are what is the best performance? , and how do we judge the performance? As a classical guitarist I used to compete in one competition. All juries have to fill in the form for all competitors there topics are Technique, Dynamics, Balancing, Precision and Rhythm, Style and Expression, and Stage Performance. Maybe those topics could judge the best performance but the problem I could see was one song that I performed called Marley’s Ghost by Andrew York the main part of first section was the melody on the bass line. One of jury wrote on the Balancing blog that I played too loud but another on said I played too soft so I got the question that who is correct? This could show that it is hard to judge the best performance. It is depend on what do you like? What is your feeling? What are the things that you used to experiences. At last the way we critic and judge classical music could be judge from both quality of pieces and the quality of performance. The performers should know the aesthetic of composers who composed the songs that they will perform so they can perform in the way right way from performers’ interpretation. And definitely the listeners will judge it by their experience and feeling.

Malcolm X   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In the U.S there have been a lot of people who’ve had political influence in our government, and the person that interested me the most was Malcolm X. Malcolm X was a African American civil rights leader who fought so African Americans could get the same rights like everyone else. Malcolm X was born on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. Before, his name was Malcolm Little, but later changed it to Malcolm X when he joined the Nation of Islam. Like many political leaders, Malcolm X had his own method of how he thought was the right action to use to get his objective. To accomplish the goal of desegregation and equality of black people, â€Å"he believed that black people should get their rights by any means necessary†# He criticized nonviolence and opposed those who favored or used it. Malcolm X went throughout the North and the South making speeches about his ideas and what he thought was right, and he encouraged all black people to fight for their righ ts and protection. As he became more popular and well known by everyone, he influenced people by giving black people the courage to stand up for themselves and fight back, made a lot of them join him with his ideas, and criticized the government for all the bad things it was doing.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In his speeches, Malcolm X spoke about fighting back against those who were hurting them or were in the way. One way that he enlightened them was, â€Å"Malcolm made blacks feel good about themselves†¦he allowed them to have self-esteem and convinced them they had power.†# In order for all black people to fight back and demand their rights, they had to have high self-esteem and make them feel they had power in order for them to put up a good fight and give them motivation to fight, and he did this through his speeches. He also made them fight against white people by â€Å"exposing the white man for the devil he was.†# By making white people look bad, it would make more black people to want to fight for their rights and use violence if they were threatened. All this was part of his method of â€Å"any means necessary.†   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Another way he had political influence was, he convinced and made a lot of people to join him and his ideas as to accomplish their goals. Data Collection. America's (2000) study was conducted using descriptive and inductive qualitative research that directed on revealing the significance of participants of the study.Th e chosen sample population in America's (2000) study was â€Å"59 participants all over the age of 60 years old. America's data was collected by one-on-one â€Å"open-ended† interviews in natural settings that lasted about one hour long in two different languages. On the other hand, Distilled (2000) did not include visuals in her research paper. Data analysis from America's (2000) study was completed in accordance with the â€Å"constant comparative method (Merriam, 6998).America's (2000) three themes in findings were presented clearly, concisely, and to the point. Diesel's (2000) paper was also presented in a narrative format. I believe Diesel's (2000) overall study including her conclusion is very abrupt and diminutive.Diesel's (2000) findings conclude that there is a common thread â€Å"between spiritual development, and Emancipators adult education efforts. â₠¬  Structure. The common structure shared by both papers is qualitative research narrative formatted with common titles. Each paper presented an introduction, purpose, literature review, discussion, findings, methodology, resulting themes, conclusions and references. Conclusion. With any good qualitative study, developing a problem statement, a purpose statement questions is important.Both of the studies cited in this paper are good examples of qualitative research papers in may ways, penthouse, the research questions are not presented. Both studies present an characteristics of a qualitative study. Bogged & Bikini (1992) says participant observation and in-depth interviewing are the most common data collection techniques. However, the problem statements from both studies are extremely vague. According to Christensen, et al. (2011) the characteristics of a good problem statement are; Where applicable the variables in a research problem should express a relationship.The statement of the robber states the rationale for the study. The statement of the problem should be testable. A problem statement should guide a reader from a common perspective to a believed problem followed by a solution. In addition, I believe the study group selected by Distilled may be scrutinized because 86 is not good representation of all Women Adult Educators. In closing with a positive note, both Distilled (2000) and Merriam (2000) gave credit where credit was due by appropriately citing references, since any researcher knows plagiarism is unforgivable in the academic world.

It is just hard to grasp for me why it takes so long for this medication to work. I would like to investigate this a little more. Why with other drugs we take like Advil for a headache work in a matter of 30 minutes but this type of drug that should make us feel happier and stop our worrying it takes longer to kick in. Having to wait that long for a drug to kick in seems like hell to me. Imagine some worrying constantly and finally get the medication but have to wait another month for it to work. Just seems like there could be another way around it. The last thing I found striking was that some of the volunteers in the studies actually had withdrawals from going off of the drug Sertraline. Many people that went of the drug felt they had reoccurring worrying like when they first went on the drug. When doing this research, I assumed that once you went on Sertraline then you would be cured for life. Then that made me ask the question well maybe these people have become dependent on the drug and the fact that they are taking a pill to fix their problems. Maybe the worrying after going off Sertraline is all in their head. The Practical: Researching and writing about the effects of Sertraline on OCD has really changed my perspective. I chose to do my research on this because I recently have been diagnosed with OCD and am on Sertraline. So I knew I should write about this and be more informed about what I am taking, and the effects it will have on my body. This truly gave me the insight I needed in order to really understand what I am going through and that I am not alone. I lots of times have felt that nobody else understood how I was feeling. But after my research it really gave me what I needed to fully grasp people do know how it feels and that after some time of taking the medication I will feel better just as they did. I have learned a lot of new information that I am going to use to my advantage. Most of the information I thought was very insightful and I actually want to talk to my doctor about it. Some of the studies found that being on Sertraline longer would be more beneficial for the disorder and would improve the overall symptoms drastically. My doctor wanted to see how I was doing at six months but I want to ask why does taking the pill longer have a better effect. I was also happy to find in my research that people had common symptoms of drossiness. I am always tired after I take my medication so Im glad to hear this is a normal side effect. I really feel more confident with the knowledge I have acquired. Lastly, this research paper has actually taught me how to effectively find and pick out information in long research studies. During this process I found the best way to effectively find all the information is to look at multiple creditable sources. GPP3O: Summative C: Course Reflection: I decided to take GPP3O because of my interest in teaching and the science behind living a healthy life. I hoped that peer tutoring in a food and nutrition class would give me the chance to experience a teacher-like role in a class partially related to my field of interest. My expectations were met and I enjoyed a semester of growth as a tutor, as I also watched the tutees around me grow and learn. Throughout the course I have made connections with students and become a better leader, all while learning new things about myself and others. There were many surprising happenings throughout the semester. One of the most unexpected events occurred during my summative leadership activity. A certain†¦show more content†¦About a month into the semester Alex began to use a speech to text software on a chromebook to type up assignments. Alex continued to complete work in this way, until one day very recently when he/she decided to physically type up a recipe. I wasn’t convinced when Alex said that he/she was going to type it into their cookbook, but I encouraged an attempt. The whole recipe was typed up in less than twenty minutes after much slow-paced letter by letter typing. Although Alex still has a long way to go, the progress that I observed and played a part in is impressive when you consider how far he/she has come. Another goal that I have had since the beginning of the course was to adopt an engaging and effective teaching style. My aim has been to take the positive traits of teachers that I have enjoyed, while keeping in mind the characteristics and mannerisms that I have disliked, and crafting my own unique teaching style. As I have lead class discussions, group readings, and mini-lessons throughout the semester I have began to develop a teaching style through trial and error.
